On the penultimate day of Paris Fashion Week, Chanel's Karl Lagerfeld blew audiences away as he launched his spring-summer collection in a grandiose deep-sea fantasy world.

The models glistened in whites, pinks and pale greens as they walked through giant coral reefs, seashells and larger than life alabaster fish under the glass roof of Paris' Grand Palais showroom.

"It was utterly extravagant to the extreme -- lovely," U.S. actress Uma Thurman, dressed in a Chanel tweed dress and Byzantine-inspired coat, told reporters.

The show was a marriage of classical Chanel elegance with a new trendy flare, as models supported short-cut jackets, skirts and longer printed dresses. Some models were even seen to reveal tattoos on their neck, which is a first for the tradition black dress, toyed pearl look.

"I have to get away from the house codes on purpose in order to make my way back to them, it's part of the game," Lagerfeld, dressed in dark jeans and a black jacket, told journalists after the show, Reuters reported. "This is a departure, a diversification and an illumination all at once."

An exhibition of models under walking under oak trees in sea-through anoraks warn with a swimsuit were one of the shows highlights.

"It's just a very fine black line, and the chain around the waist is a pearl necklace, which has moved down slightly," Lagerfeld told Reuters. "Those anoraks, they are good for the beach."

The show was not without its simple Chanel sleekness; however, boucle tweed suits and collarless dresses with a slight puffed-out volume at the back ran up and down the catwalk.

A series of bright white simple skirt suits were also an eye-catcher for their exhibition of comfort and elegance.

The show was accompanies by Florence Welch from "Florence and the machine" who sang in harmony with a harp played by a sea god.
